In Mumbai, the CBI has filed a chargesheet against income-tax officer Sandeep Singh on Monday. Singh, who was serving on deputation with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as an assistant director, was allegedly caught accepting a bribe in August. Leading an ED search team that conducted a raid at a jeweller's residence in Mumbai regarding a suspected money laundering case tied to an investment app controlled by Chinese nationals, Singh demanded a bribe of Rs 20 lakh from the jeweller after the raid, threatening to arrest his son if the money was not paid. The jeweller reported the incident to the CBI, prompting an investigation that led to Singh's arrest in Delhi after he collected the bribe. Singh's bail application was previously denied by a sessions court, and he is currently in jail custody. The CBI also seized a phone that was not registered under Singh's name during his arrest.
